Once they have the financial backing needed, the promoter has to secure a venue before offering an itinerary to the agents for those particular acts. The promoter then presents the agent with a feasibility study which shows the agent that the act has a big enough following and that its financially viable to bring the performer to South Africa. Of course the acts feasibility would have been established when courting potential sponsors. The tricky part is negotiating with the agent as to how the act is to be paid for performing. It would either be a set fee or a percentage of the net amount. The agent will obviously go with whichever option they feel will earn the act the most amount of money. Once the offer is settled a contract gets drawn up, both parties sign, and the act and the promoter are bound legally. At this point, the promoter then pays funds into a trust account which nobody can access until the date of the event. So this means that although the promoter would have already paid the act, the money would not be available until the act actually performed. This is an assurance that in the unfortunate event that the act could not play, the promoter would not lose money. Once contracts have been signed, the venues are confirmed, ticket agents are appointed and media partners and publicists are brought on board. Local support artists are then also contracted and an advertising and marketing campaign is created in conjunction with the concert or tour sponsors. A Team Effort.
